Should You Ride Blue Streak?
Blue Streak is a very different kind of Level 3 experience from Iron Dragon. Instead of smooth suspended movement, it introduces riders to the vibration, airtime, hills, and more physical feel of a traditional wooden coaster.
At 78 feet tall and 40 mph, its statistics are approachable compared with Cedar Point’s major thrill coasters, but its classic wooden construction can make the experience feel more energetic than those numbers suggest.
Best For
Riders who are comfortable on Cedar Point’s easier coasters and want to experience traditional wooden-coaster airtime and movement before progressing to larger or more aggressive rides.
Biggest Fear Factor
The wooden-coaster feel. Blue Streak has more vibration and movement than newer steel coasters, and the small airtime hills can repeatedly lift riders from their seats.
CoasterSchool Take
Blue Streak is a valuable Level 3 experience because it teaches riders something that a smooth steel coaster cannot: whether they actually enjoy the feel of a traditional wooden coaster.
Its 78-foot height is not especially intimidating by Cedar Point standards, but the combination of classic track, airtime, and repeated hills can make Blue Streak feel more intense than Iron Dragon for some riders.
You do not need to enjoy that older wooden-coaster sensation before moving into Level 4. Some riders are more comfortable on much larger modern steel coasters.

DID YOU KNOW?
Blue Streak is Cedar Point’s oldest operating coaster and its only traditional wooden coaster. It opened in 1964 and helped end a decade-long stretch without a new coaster at the park.
72-Foot First Drop
After climbing 78 feet, Blue Streak drops 72 feet at a 45-degree angle before beginning its classic series of airtime hills.
What Blue Streak Feels Like
Blue Streak is a straightforward coaster structurally, but its wooden track and repeated airtime hills give it considerably more personality and movement than a modern family coaster.
The Lift Hill
The traditional chain lift slowly brings the train to 78 feet. Because the train and track are relatively open, riders get plenty of time to see the first drop approaching.
The First Drop
The 72-foot first drop is a meaningful step up from Cedar Point’s beginner coasters without approaching the enormous scale of Magnum or Millennium Force.
The classic trains and wooden track can make the drop feel more pronounced than its size suggests.
The Airtime Hills
Blue Streak follows a classic out-and-back design: the train travels through a series of hills, makes a 180-degree turnaround, and then heads back toward the station over more hills.
Those repeated hills give riders several opportunities to experience traditional coaster airtime.
The Wooden-Coaster Feel
Expect noticeable vibration and movement throughout the ride. That does not necessarily mean the coaster is excessively rough, but it will feel very different from Iron Dragon, Siren’s Curse, or Cedar Point’s newer steel coasters.
For some riders, this is part of the fun. Others may discover that they simply prefer smoother coaster styles.
COASTERSCHOOL RIDING TIPS
Tips for a Better Ride
Seat Choice
The front or middle is usually the better choice for riders who want a smoother first experience.
- Front/middle: More predictable and a little less aggressive
- Back: Stronger pull over the hills and more noticeable airtime
Body & Restraint
Blue Streak uses an individual lap bar and seatbelt, which can feel more old-school and snug than restraints on newer coasters.
- Sit naturally back against the seat
- Stay relaxed and let the lap bar and seatbelt hold you in position rather than bracing hard against every hill
During the Ride
Expect classic wooden-coaster movement, quick airtime, and a more active ride feel than Iron Dragon.
- The smaller hills can give sharper airtime than they look like they should
- Some vibration and roughness are normal for the ride style

Where Do You Go From Here?
Coaster progression isn’t a checklist. Choose the next ride based on what felt comfortable, or what still felt intimidating.
