Should You Ride Cedar Creek Mine Ride?

Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a significant step up from Woodstock Express. It reaches 42 mph and stretches across more than 2,500 feet of track, giving riders a much longer and more traditional coaster experience without introducing inversions or a huge first drop.

Best For

Riders who are comfortable on Woodstock Express and are ready for something that feels more like a full-size coaster while still avoiding Cedar Point’s major thrill rides.

Biggest Fear Factor

The older ride style can make Cedar Creek Mine Ride feel more intense than its statistics suggest. Quick turns, lateral movement, and the mine-train cars can produce a more jostling experience than newer family coasters.

CoasterSchool Take

Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a useful Level 2 stepping stone because it introduces riders to the length, speed, and movement of a larger coaster without relying on extreme height or inversions.

Don’t worry if a rider finds it surprisingly intense. The older Arrow mine-train experience can feel rougher and less predictable than some technically bigger coasters.

DID YOU KNOW?

Cedar Creek Mine Ride opened in 1969 as the centerpiece of Cedar Point’s Frontier Town and is now the park’s second-oldest operating coaster after Blue Streak.

TWO LIFT HILLS

Cedar Creek Mine Ride uses two chain lift hills, helping create its unusually long, winding mine-train layout.

What Cedar Creek Mine Ride Feels Like

Cedar Creek Mine Ride feels noticeably larger and more adventurous than Cedar Point’s beginner coasters, with a long layout, quick turns, terrain interaction, and an old-school mine-train ride style.

The First Lift

The ride begins by passing through the mine-themed structure before climbing the first of two lift hills. The lift itself is not especially tall, but it helps establish that this is a much more substantial coaster than Woodstock Express.

The Drop Over the Lagoon

After the first lift, the train winds through turns before dropping toward Cedar Point’s lagoon. The drop is not enormous, but the combination of speed, water, and the mine-train cars can make it feel more exciting than the height suggests.

The Turns & Second Lift

Quick turns and lateral movement are a major part of the experience. A second lift extends the ride and makes Cedar Creek Mine Ride feel much longer than many beginner coasters.

The Finale

The ride finishes with a double helix, creating stronger sustained turning forces before returning to the station. Combined with the older ride style, this can make the ending feel surprisingly energetic for a Level 2 coaster.

COASTERSCHOOL RIDING TIPS

Tips for a Better Ride

Seat Choice

The front or middle is usually better for riders who want a calmer first experience.

  • Front/middle: More balanced and predictable
  • Back: Stronger pull and slightly more abrupt movement
Body & Restraint

The older Arrow layout creates more side-to-side movement than Woodstock Express.

  • Sit naturally centered in the seat
  • Avoid deliberately leaning into the turns
During the Ride

Expect quick turns and old-school mine-train movement more than big drops.

  • There are two lift hills
  • The double-helix finale is one of the more forceful sections
