Rougarou
A forceful floorless coaster with four inversions, stronger positive Gs, and an older-school B&M ride feel that can be less comfortable than Cedar Point’s newer Level 4 coasters.

Should You Ride Rougarou?
Rougarou is a traditional B&M looping coaster with a 145-foot lift, 137-foot first drop, 60-mph top speed, and four inversions. Its floorless trains leave riders’ feet hanging above the track, but the bigger challenge for many riders is the coaster’s stronger forces and older transitions.
Best For
Riders who are already comfortable with full-size inversions and stronger forces and want to experience a more aggressive, old-school style of B&M coaster.
Biggest Fear Factor
The repeated inversions and forceful ride feel.
Rougarou moves through a large vertical loop, dive loop, inclined loop, and corkscrew. The elements themselves are not unusually extreme for Level 4, but the over-the-shoulder restraints and quicker transitions can make the experience feel less forgiving than GateKeeper, Valravn, or Siren’s Curse.
CoasterSchool Take
Rougarou is Level 4, but it is not one of our preferred Level 4 progression coasters.
That distinction matters. A rider might comfortably handle Siren’s Curse, GateKeeper, Valravn, Millennium Force — or even eventually some Level 5 coasters, while simply finding Rougarou less enjoyable because of its older-school B&M ride character.
If Rougarou causes head movement or feels uncomfortable, that does not automatically mean the rider has reached their intensity limit.

DID YOU KNOW?
Rougarou originally opened as Mantis, a stand-up coaster.
Cedar Point converted the existing B&M coaster to floorless trains and reopened it as Rougarou in 2015.
FOUR INVERSIONS
Rougarou sends riders through four inversions: a 119-foot vertical loop, 103-foot dive loop, 83-foot inclined loop, and a corkscrew.
Maximum rider height: 78 in.
What Rougarou Feels Like
Rougarou combines large B&M inversions with stronger forces and an older ride design. The layout is not especially unpredictable, but the physical experience can feel more demanding than several smoother Level 4 coasters.
The Floorless Seating
Once riders are secured, the station floor drops away and their feet hang freely above the track.
The seating adds some openness to the experience, but unlike GateKeeper, riders still sit directly over the track rather than beside it.
The First Drop & Vertical Loop
After climbing 145 feet, Rougarou drops 137 feet and reaches 60 mph before entering a huge 119-foot vertical loop.
The first portion delivers noticeable positive G-forces and establishes the more forceful character of the ride quickly.
The Inversions
Rougarou continues through a 103-foot dive loop, an 83-foot inclined loop, and later a corkscrew for four total inversions.
These transitions are more compact and forceful than GateKeeper’s broad, sweeping elements.
The Second Half
After the block brake, Rougarou continues through additional turns, the corkscrew, and low-to-the-ground movement.
For some riders, this portion is where the older B&M transitions and over-the-shoulder restraints become most noticeable.
COASTERSCHOOL RIDING TIPS
Tips for a Better Ride
Seat Choice
Rougarou’s seat position can make a noticeable difference in comfort.
- Front/middle seats: Usually the better choice if you want the least aggressive first ride
- Back/outside seats: Can feel more forceful and more prone to head movement through the second half
Body & Restraint
Rougarou uses hard over-the-shoulder restraints, so head position matters more here than on newer B&M coasters.
- Keep your head centered and slightly forward so it is less likely to bounce between the restraints
- Stay relaxed through the transitions instead of bracing hard against every turn
During the Ride
The second half is where Rougarou can feel the most abrupt.
- Expect stronger head movement through the corkscrew and quick transitions after the block brake
- If the ride feels uncomfortable, that does not mean you are not ready for smoother Level 4 or even some Level 5 coasters
Watch the Rougarou Ride Preview
See Rougarou from a rider’s perspective before getting in line. The Ride Preview will show the floorless seating, first drop, four inversions, stronger positive forces, and older-school B&M transitions so riders can understand why this Level 4 coaster can feel more physically demanding than some newer rides.
Where Do You Go From Here?
Coaster progression isn’t a checklist. Choose the next ride based on what felt comfortable, or what still felt intimidating.
