Should You Ride Woodstock’s Air Rail?
Woodstock’s Air Rail is a great next step for riders who are comfortable on beginner coasters but want to try something that looks and feels different. Your feet hang below the track and the train moves through quick turns, but there are no inversions, major drops, or extreme speeds.
Best For
Riders ready to move beyond traditional junior coasters and experience dangling feet, faster turns, and the sensation of riding underneath the track.
Biggest Fear Factor
The hanging seats can make the coaster look much more intimidating than it actually is, especially for riders who have never ridden an inverted-style coaster before.
CoasterSchool Take
Woodstock’s Air Rail is an excellent Level 2 coaster because it introduces the visual and physical feel of an inverted coaster without the height, speed, inversions, or forces found on rides like Banshee.

DID YOU KNOW?
Woodstock’s Air Rail originally opened in 2001 as Rugrats Runaway Reptar before becoming Flying Ace Aerial Chase in 2010 and receiving its current Woodstock’s Air Rail name for the 2024 season.
2.2 G Maximum Force
Despite its hanging seats and inverted-coaster appearance, Woodstock’s Air Rail reaches only about 26 mph and a maximum force of roughly 2.2 G, keeping the experience firmly in family-coaster territory.
What Woodstock’s Air Rail Feels Like
Woodstock’s Air Rail looks like a much larger inverted coaster, but the actual ride is a manageable mix of dangling feet, gentle height, and quick side-to-side movement.
The Hanging Seats
The biggest difference from most beginner coasters happens before the ride even starts. The track is above you and your feet hang freely below the seat, creating a more exposed feeling than a traditional sit-down coaster.
The Lift Hill
The train climbs gradually to about 49 feet. Because your feet are dangling and the track is overhead, the height may feel more noticeable than it would on a similarly sized sit-down coaster.
The First Drop & Turns
The first drop is modest rather than steep, and the ride quickly moves into a series of banked turns and direction changes. The sensation is more about swinging your view from side to side than experiencing big drops or airtime.
The Rest of the Ride
The train keeps moving through quick curves and smaller changes in elevation before returning to the station. There are no inversions, launches, or major airtime moments, making the ride a good introduction to the suspended coaster experience.
COASTERSCHOOL RIDING TIPS
Tips for a Better Ride
Seat Choice
Seat choice can slightly change how exposed and forceful the ride feels.
- Front: Gives you the clearest view of the track ahead and can help nervous riders see exactly where the coaster is going.
- Back: Can feel a little quicker through the drops and turns as the rest of the train pulls you through the layout.
Body & Restraint
Woodstock’s Air Rail uses an over-the-shoulder harness with a safety belt.
- Sit naturally against the seat and let the restraint keep your upper body in position.
- Let your legs hang naturally rather than trying to brace your feet against anything.
During the Ride
The unusual seating position is more intimidating than the actual coaster forces.
- Expect quick side-to-side turns, but no upside-down moments or major drops.
- If the dangling-feet sensation feels strange at first, focus forward—the ride is smooth, predictable, and over quickly.
